Welcome Friends!
After years of hearing that I should start a travel blog, the time has finally come! It may have taken me a while, but I am eager to share some of my favourite adventures, advice and tips for fellow travellers.
If you don't know me yet, let me introduce myself!
My name is Kayla Solway, and I am originally from Calgary, Alberta. Currently, I reside in Toronto, pursuing an undergraduate degree in journalism with a minor in English. I like to consider myself an adventure traveller, truly immersing myself in each country I visit and trying as much food as I can.
My backpacking journey began after graduating high school when I took my first solo trip to Costa Rica in 2021. What was supposed to be two weeks turned into nearly four. The trip was a learning experience filled with many ups and downs, but it truly made me fall in love with backpacking and ultimately led to my travel bug.
Only a few months after returning home, I booked a last-minute trip to Hawaii, where I spent three weeks backpacking O'ahu and the Big Island. I then returned to Central America, exploring Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama. Going back to Costa Rica a second time, I had the opportunity to do a work exchange on a sailboat, which is still a favourite memory of mine.
I had planned for a one-year gap before starting university, but it quickly became a two-year hiatus. I worked throughout the summer and eventually ended up in Asia, where I spent nine months exploring ten different countries (more on this later).
Although I am focusing on my undergrad, I always have travel in mind and can't wait to keep exploring! For my next stop, I'll be checking off South America, where I'll visit Peru, Bolivia, and Chile.
